Quick Details
Ready to become a scuba instructor?
You can complete everything you need to leading up to the IDC plus finish up with the Instructor Exam right on the island immediately after the course!
Before the Instructor training takes off, we’ll be completing a Dive Master (DM) training from Feb 3 – 15, 2025 and then the Emergency First Responder (EFR) training on Feb 18th for those who have lapsed to get you up to date. We’ll move directly into the PADI Instructor Development (IDC) course from Feb 20 through March 3rd, finishing up any review needed before the Instructor Exam (IE) 3/3 – 3/4/2025.
No traveling around or waiting periods in between!
It’s all right here on St. Thomas with Aqua Marine Dive Center, St. Thomas’ PADI Five Star Instructor Development Center.
Become a PADI Assistant Instructor or an Open Water Scuba Instructor
The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and go on to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification.
Successfully completing just the AI course results in a PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When an AI is ready to progress, attending an OWSI program allows entry into an IE to earn a full PADI Instructor rating.
Requirements to enroll:
- A PADI Divemaster who has been a certified diver for a minimum of six months
- At least 60 logged dives
- Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the past 24 months.
- A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months
Requirements to take the Instructor Exam:
- 100 logged dives to attend an IE.
- You also need to be an Emergency First Response Instructor, but you can earn this rating during your instructor training.
